This month we want to take the time to honor the women. I’ve come to realize that women possess tremendous power. I’ve seen even the strongest of men buckle under the powers of the most subtle hints of a woman. Have you ever seen a woman give her husband “The Look”? With one “LOOK” those eyes could pierce through a steel door or bend a metal rod. I remember that look from early on when I was sitting in church and my mom gave the look that shot through the back of my head and burned a hole in the wall. I knew then that I should probably listen to the preacher; especially since the preacher was my dad.
My wife has those same powers. She‘s given me the look before; one that would raise a dead man from the grave, then make him want to go back. I wish they could use their powers for good some times, like Abigail in 1 Samuel 25. She had this mean, wealthy husband (Nabal) that didn’t care for anything but himself. Somehow he had caught himself a beautiful, loving and diplomatic wife. You can read about how David was ready to raid Nabal’s home for being so rude and disrespectful to David’s men. David decided against this plan just because of Nabal’s wife. Abigail saved her husband’s hide from David. I imagine this wasn’t the first time that she had to run interference for her husband Nabal. She had probably become pretty proficient at making him look far better than he really was. Women have this power; the power to make us look better than we really are. I’ve seen men with terrible attitudes offset by the most Godly of women. I’ve seen people embarrassed many times by the outrageous behavior of a husband while his wife graciously filled the gap with a loving comment or kind attitude. I’ve watched many ladies run interference for their rude and obnoxious men. I can recall one lady who was always making up for her husband’s consistent bad behavior. The only reason everyone really tolerated him was because of her. She used her power for good.
Ladies, God has gifted you with great power to make us look good; the power to make us look better than we really are and the power to run interference for us at times when we are not at our best. VRC honors you this month for having the grace to work with us men.
