I’ve been talking to you about the importance of vision and what vision will do for you and those around you. I want to touch on what will happen after you get a God vision for your life. You’ll have one of two people to start surrounding you; there will be the killers or the thrillers.
I want to start by first making you aware of the killers because the enemy will try to kill the vision first. The goal of the enemy is to kill the vision before it can gain any element of traction. When I think of vision killers I’m reminded of Joseph. Genesis 37 sets the stage for what we see as vision killer number one… people. At seventeen years of age Joseph was being prepared for vision. He had all the right things in place for God to impart vision into his life. I know that we have heard a lot of people say how Joseph was maybe a little too confident or was favored by his father and that he should have just kept his mouth shut about his vision; but let me just say this… a person should be able to speak vision to their family without getting the shaft. Our families are there to give us help, insight and encouragement, not to plot to destroy our life. So with that out of the way I would say this, with or without family, not everyone will be excited about the vision God has for your life. As a matter of fact I can tell you that people in your field of life, people that are trying to seek the same promotion, people that desire the same goals and even people that aren’t seeking anything, they just don’t want you to have it if they can’t have it.      I’ll keep going. There are people that aren’t willing to pay the price, people that aren’t willing to sacrifice, people that try to cut corners, people that have no values or character and people that simply think that it’s due them or rightfully theirs. I could keep listing all of the people that will try to kill your vision. With Joseph it just happened to be his family. The word of God is filled with people that tried to kill the vision of God’s children. David was a man with a vision yet Saul tried to kill the visionary as well as the vision. More often, if the vision involves others serving under you when they feel like you should be serving under them, there will be a vision killer to rise up. A God vision will involve people entering your life at certain stages in the vision process. In each of these stages there will be people that connect with you but will resent what God is doing through you. Watch out for a vision killer.
By now you’re probably looking down the list of people around you and thinking about how you need to watch out for them. But I can tell you that if you’re looking through the list, your God vision will not go far. Being consumed with those who threaten your vision only reveals your own insecurities. So what is the balance when dealing with potential vision killers? Love people no matter what. Continue to follow God’s vision knowing that if He gave it-He will guard it. If God gave you the vision, no one can kill it as long as we realize that it was His to start with. Be careful that you possess the vision and vision doesn’t possess you. Many people become so consumed with the vision that they start worshipping the vision instead of the God of the vision. God is working out a vision through someone that will give him the glory for it at every stage. Just like Joseph, your heart will no doubt break because of the people that you thought were with you, only to find out that they were merely waiting for an opportunity to move you over and slip in your place… people that you spent time with and shared your heart with. So try to have the attitude of forgiveness and be like Joseph and realize that no matter what people do, God can turn it around and use it for good and even heal wounded relationships in the process.
